Unit 4

G1: Be able to originate, develop and research an idea for a media product:

Develop ideas, analysis and justification of ideas for a specific project

Online advertising logo/slogan- when doing this i could create a billboard like product for a specific company of my choosing or I could make one up.

Book Cover- I could make either a fake book cover or find someone that wants a cover designed.

I have found an amature author that would like a cover designed for their book, they also gave me a brief of what they wanted the cover to look like.

Develop idea in detail using moodboard, mock-ups and surveys

Here are a variety of different covers that I could get inspiration from if I were making my own cover, however since I am making a comer for someone else I have to use their ideas and get their approval on the final outcome.

Consider potential constraints of project including S.W.O.T analysis, legal and ethical considerations, data protection etc.

Strengths- The strengths of designing a book cover out of a brief that was given to me are that I can't be rushed, I can't work on the cover as and when I want.

Weaknesses- I cannot do what I want I have to stick to the brief.

Legal and Ethical Considerations- When designing the cover you need to make sure that the cover you create won't offend lots of people.

Data Protection- Adding a watermark to my image will help protect it from people who would like to steal the image.

G2: Be able to pitch a proposal for a media product:

Create a proposal outlining content, target audience, resources, budget and project schedule

Client gave me most of what needs to be done in this task the email exchange with most of what is required is in a PDF at the bottom of the page.

For the budget i managed to now have to spend any money as i used the computers at my college for designing and any images on the cover i made and edited myself at college.

Budget cost- £0

Production schedule-

Day 1- discuss cover with client to find out what thy want the cover to look like.

Day 2- work on main front cover

Day 3- Make side cover

Day 4- design back cover

Day 5- finnish front cover

Day 6- finnish side and back covers

I emailed the client and sent pictures of the covers as they were being designed to see if it is what they wanted and made any amendments that were required to make.

Pitch your proposal using appropriate technology to your client

See PDF at bottom of page.

G3: Be able to project manage a production process to create a media product:

Evidence planning your production inc. job role outlines, regular meetings and agendas, equipment, risk assessments, locations etc.

Job Roles-

Designer- R. M. Lowe (Me)

Author- J. A. D. Charles

Meetings-

We had only a few meetings as most of the time we only needed to email each other. On the few times that we did meet we discussed the more finer details of the cover.

Equipment-

Computer- with photoshop and emails

Risk assessment-

Wires from the computer could be tripped over

If the computer is faulty they could be an electricity hazard

Locations-

My college (for computer)

Local youth club

Identify the different production phases through production schedule, contingency plans, scrums etc.

Contingency Plan-

Online advertising logo/slogan- when doing this I could create a billboard like product for a specific company of my choosing or I could make one up. I haven't had to use this idea as my first idea worked out the way I wanted.

Create a product that realises the proposal and demonstrates excellent technical and aesthetic qualities
